Kassandria is the center of the Kassandra Municipality, the largest village and the point of reference.
It appeared as a settlement in the 16th century and its name derives from king Kassandros of Macedonia and from the ancient city with the same name that was built by the Kassandra channel.
It’s the cultural, commercial and administrative center of the region and some of its activities are the Folk Museum of Kassandria Cultural club with its dancing groups, the Municipal auditorium, the city philharmonic and the crown of its happenings is the Kassandra Festival, that takes place every summer at the amphitheater of Siviri.
The walkway, the beautiful shops, the taverns with their delicacies, the nice pricing and the good service offer guests a good time all year round.
In the central square, guests can take a break by the waterfall or under the leaves of the old plane tree. Through the cobble stone alleys the guest passes by some of the buildings, as the one of Aristoteles Economou or the house of Papastavrou, sample of the Architecture of its era and lead them to the City Hall. The church of Aghios Athanasios is an example of the way small churches were built and the interventions that were made in later years. Through cobble stone streets, you get to the main church of “Gennisis tis Theotokou” (St Mary’s birth), bu8ilt in 1850.
Guests can walk up to Aghios Raphael or Aghios Georgios, Lekani, Aghios Demetrius and enjoy the beauty of the forest, fresh running water and beautiful small churches. The old windmill seems like it’s greeting you as you enter or leave town.
Returning back in the evening, one can attend to a cultural happening with dances, theater, Greek nights or enjoy nightlife at a tavern or bar.
