Welcome to Kassandra Guide!

 

 

The four founding associations of rented rooms – apartments of the Kassandra Peninsula agreed on constituting an urban non-profit corporation under the name:

“coordinating committee of touristic accommodation of the Kassandra Peninsula” and the title “Kassandros”.

Aim of the corporation is the organizing and implementation of European and national programs emphasizing on touristic goals, trekking activities and combined actions, cultural and sport events, IT education, foreign languages learning, advertising and exhibitional events for the founding members domestic and abroad (by printed media, videos, maps and every kind of advertising, helping the purpose of promoting local products of the Kassandra Peninsula, in the aid of the national economy and of the productive sector of the peninsula and in general, its purpose is the promotion of its members’ goals.

How to get to Skala Fourka

From Thessaloniki: 

Duration of drive: 1,30 hrs 

Driving on the National Road Thessaloniki – Kassandria, we exit to Kassandria and then we continue through Siviri - Skala Fourka.

Total distance :  14.81 Km

Difficulty grade: είναι μια σχετικά εύκολη διαδρομή ,με μόνο 2 ανηφόρες με δυσκολία συνολικά στην διαδρομή.

Road conditions: it’s a combination of tarmac (20%) and gravel (80%).

Course safety: it’s a course driveable by car that could follow the biker for maximum safety, provided it’s an off - road one.

You might come across beehives at some points, due to the local forest honey production.

Data and course analysis

The beginning of the route is at Paralia Square in Skala Fourkas. Skala Fourka (Beach) has cafes, fish taverns, bars, rooms to let, hotels and shopping centers.

 

We start our course straight to the beach following the main dirt road.

 

2.      At 300 m straight ahead we meet a junction 

(wpt 2)     (alt.=  0m)

and continue our route following the road to the left on the main dirt road.

 

3.      After 390 m  (wpt 3)     (alt.= 0m)

we will meet an intersection and continue our course right after the asphalt road.

 

4.      Continue along the central asphalt road until at 560 m we meet 

(wpt 4)     (alt.=  0m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course right following the asphalt road.

 

5.      At 1.03 km we will meet  (wpt 5)     (alt.= 0m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course to the left following the central dirt road.

 

6.      At 1.07 km we will meet  (wpt 6)     (alt.= 0m)

has a triple junction and we will continue our course straight without leaving the main dirt road.

 

7.      At 1.72 km we meet  (wpt 7)     (alt.= 28m)

has a triple junction and we will continue our course straight without leaving the main dirt road.

 

8.      At 2,11 km we will meet  (wpt 8)     (alt.= 23m)

has a junction and we will continue our course straight - slightly left following the central dirt road.

 

9.      At 2.54 km we will meet  (wpt 9)      (alt.= 18m)

has an intersection where 

1. Left goes to the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary of Kalandra, known as Panagia Plastariotissa (year 1619) and 

2. Right goes to Kalandra

We will go left to visit the Church of the Presentation of the Theotokos of Kalandra known as Panagia Plastariotissa.

 

10.  At 2,64 km we will meet  (wpt 10)     (alt.= 22m)

here is the Church of the Presentation of the Theotokos of Kalandra known as Panagia Plastariotissa (year 1619) 

we will continue our course straight to Kalandra.

 

11.  At 3.26 km we will meet  (wpt 11)     (alt.= 18m)

has a junction and we will continue our course straight ahead following the main dirt road to Kalandra.

 

12.  At 3.43 km we will meet  (wpt 12)     (alt.= 19m)

has an intersection where

          1. Left goes to the village of Kalandra and

          2. Right goes to the settlement Possidi

              We will go right to the settlement Possidi 

              (Attention !!! There is a sidewalk from the left side to Possidi)

 

13.  At 4,74 km we will meet  (wpt 13)     (alt.= 10m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course left to the beach of Possidi.

 

14.  At 5.27 km we will meet  (wpt 14)     (alt.= 0m)

and we meet the beach of Possidi village. We will continue our course straight across the front of the beach without leaving the main asphalt road.

 

15.  At 5.60 km we will meet  (wpt 15)    (alt.= 1m)

has a junction and we will continue our course left to the Possidi Lighthouse following the main asphalt road.

 

16.  At 6,11 km we will meet  (wpt 16)     (alt.= 5m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course straight to the Possidi Lighthouse following the main asphalt road.

 

17.  At 6.41 km we will meet  (wpt 17)     (alt.= 2m)

has a junction and we will continue our course to the Possidi Lighthouse and Poseidon's Sanctuary following the main dirt road.

 

18.  At 6.66 km we will meet  (wpt 18)     (alt.= 0m)

has an intersection where

1.      We arrive at the Sanctuary of Poseidon and

2.      We will continue our course right following the main dirt road to the Possidi Lighthouse.

 

19.  At 7.01 km we will meet  (wpt 19)      (alt.= 0m)

has an intersection where

1.     Straight goes to the Lighthouse and the Cape of Possidi (Cape Glossa) and

2.      On the right we continue our course.

We will continue our course straight ahead following the dirt road to the Lighthouse and the Cape of Possidi (Cape Glossa).

 

20.  At 7.01 km we will meet  (wpt 20)     (alt.= 0m)

We arrived at the Possidi Lighthouse and if we continue straight we will go to Cape of Possidi (Cape Glossa)..

We will continue our journey back to the previous junction and follow the main dirt road to the left of the Possidi Lighthouse.

 

21.  At 7.58 km we will meet  (wpt 21)     (alt.= 0m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course right to Possidi (asphalt)

 

22.  At 7.96 km we will meet  (wpt 22)     (alt.= 3m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course left (asphalt)

 

23.  At 10.02 km we will meet  (wpt 23)    (alt.= 4m)

we have reached the beach and we have a spectacular view of Skala Fourka and we will continue our course straight following the asphalt road.

 

24.  At 10,50 km we will meet  (wpt 24)     (alt.= 1m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course right uphill ( it is a cement road ) and once this road is over we will follow the main dirt road.

 

25.  At 12.04 km we will meet  (wpt 25)     (alt.= 16m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course left on the narrow dirt road.

 

26.  At 12.66 km we will meet 

(wpt 26)     (alt.= 17m)

has a junction and we will continue our course right and after 10m we will continue and at the next junction to the left we will follow the main dirt road to Skala Fourkas.

 

27.  At 13.08 km we will meet  (wpt 27)     (alt.= 22m)

has a triple junction and we will continue our course straight following the main dirt road.

 

28.  At 13,70 km we will meet  (wpt 28)     (alt.= 1m)

has a triple junction and we will continue our course straight following the central dirt road.

 

29.  At 13.79 km we will meet  (wpt 29)     (alt.=  0m)

has a junction and we will continue our course right to the asphalt road.

 

30.  At 14.25 km we will meet  (wpt 30)      (alt.= 0m

has a junction and we will continue our course left to the beach following the asphalt road.

 

31. At 14.41 km we will meet  (wpt 31)     (alt.= 0m)

has a junction and we will continue our course left to the beach following the asphalt road.

 

32.  At 14.45 km we will meet  (wpt 32)     (alt.= 0m)

has a junction and we will continue our course right to the central square of Skala Fourkas following the main dirt road.

 

33.  At 14.81 km we will meet  (wpt 33)     (alt.=  0m

and reach the central square of Skala Fourkas.

Data and course analysis

 

1.      (wpt 1)    (alt.= 13m)  

The route begins from the main entrance of Polichrono. At the village you can visit the Folklore Museum where you can learn the local history and the way of life of the inhabitants in earlier times. It has cafes, tavernas, shopping venues and you can find local producers of honey and olives. At a distance of 2,85 km to the ridge of the Kassandra Peninsula, we find the famous Lake Mavrobara, protected by the Bonn Convention N.2719 and the EU Directive on the Conservation of Wild Flora and Fauna, because of the three rare species of turtles living at it:

 01 Emys orbicularis (Carl Linnaeus 1758)

 02 Mauremys caspica (Achille Valenciennes 1833)

 03 Testudo hermanni boettgeri (Mojsisovics 1889)

 We start our course straight uphill to meet the National Road Paliouri - Thessaloniki (Traffic Lights).

 

2.      At 90m we meet the intersection of the National Road Paliouri - Thessaloniki (Traffic Lights) . 

(wpt 2)     (alt.= 17m)

and continue our route following the road right, (it is an asphalt road).

 

3.      After 230 m  (wpt 3)     (alt.= 18m)

we will meet a junction and continue our course to the left following the dirt road towards the ridge (there is a sign showing the course).

 

4.      Continue along the main dirt road until at 430 m we meet 

(wpt 4)     (alt.= 19m)

has a junction and we will continue to the right (there is a sign showing the course) on the main dirt road.

 

5.      At 1.36 km we will meet  (wpt 5)     (alt.= 99m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course left uphill on the main dirt road (there is a sign that shows the course).

 

6.      At 1.61 km we will meet  (wpt 6)    (alt.= 140m)

is the chapel of Agios Ioannis (year of construction 1983) and we will continue our course straight on the main dirt road.

 

7.      At 1.82 km we will meet  (wpt 7)     (alt.= 145m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course straight - slightly right on the main dirt road (there is a sign that shows the course).

 

8.     At 2,06 km we will meet  (wpt 8)      (alt.= 167m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course to the left on the main dirt road (there is a sign showing the course).

9.    At 2.77 km we will meet   (wpt 9)     (alt.= 231m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course to the left on the main dirt road (there is a sign that shows the course).

 

10.  At 2,85 km we will meet  (wpt 10)     (alt.= 228m)

were we find the famous Lake Mavrobara (there is a sign), which is protected by the Bonn Convention N.2719 and the EU Directive on the Conservation of the wild flora and fauna because of the three rare species of turtles living there.

has a junction and we will continue our course right on the main dirt road.

 

12.  At 3.85 km we will meet  (wpt 12)     (alt.= 285m)

has a junction and we will continue our course left uphill.

 

13.  At 4,12 km we meet  (wpt 13)     (alt.= 316m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course right.

 

14.  At 4,82 km we will meet  (wpt 14)     (alt.= 294m)

has an amazing view point where North, we see Athitos and Nea Potidea, West we see Mount Olympus and Thermaikos Gulf.

Continue straight ahead without leaving the main dirt road.

 

15.  At 5.07 km we will meet  (wpt 15)     (alt.= 270m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course right and downhill without leaving the main dirt road.

 

16.  At 5.56 km we will meet  (wpt 16)     (alt.= 243m)

has a 4-way junction and we will continue our course right and uphill to the top of Mount Kamila.

 

17.  At 5.82 km we will meet  (wpt 17)    (alt.= 250m)

there is the top of Mount Kamila. We enjoy the fantastic view and we see the Cassandra peninsula, in the West we see the eastern side of Mount Olympus, north we see Athitos and all the way to Petralona, where the famous Petralona cave is located, when the weather allows it. 

To continue to the village of Kassandrino we will continue our course straight and downhill without leaving the main dirt road.

 

18.  At 5.90 km we will meet  (wpt 18)     (alt.=  234m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course straight - slightly left.

 

19.  At 6,13 km we will meet  (wpt 19)     (alt.= 211m)

has a junction and we will continue our course right on the main dirt road.

 

20.  At 6,61 km we meet  (wpt 20)     (alt.= 134m)

has a junction and we will continue our course right on the main dirt road.

 

21.  At 6.74 km we meet  (wpt 21)     (alt.= 124m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course straight on the main dirt road.

 

22.  At 6.93 km we will meet  (wpt 22)     (alt.= 124m)

has a junction and we will continue our course straight - slightly right without leaving the main dirt road.

 

23.  At 7.58 km we meet  (wpt 23)     (alt.= 114m)

has a junction and we will continue our course straight - slightly to the right without leaving the main dirt road.

 

24.  At 7,90 km we meet  (wpt 24)     (alt.= 112m)

has a double crossing and we will continue our course right without leaving the main dirt road.

 

25.  At 8.08 km we will meet  (wpt 25)     (alt.= 104m)

has an intersection and we will continue our course right and uphill without leaving the main dirt road.

 

26.  At 8.81 km we meet  (wpt 26)     (alt.= 105m)

has a junction and we will continue our course left and downhill without leaving the main dirt road.

 

27.  At 8.99 km we will meet  (wpt 27)     (alt.= 97m)

has a junction and we will continue our course right uphill without leaving the main dirt road.

 

28.  At 10.04 km we will meet   (wpt 28)     (alt.=  77m)

where we meet a junction where to our right is a small bridge and to continue our course to the village of Kassandrino we will follow the asphalt straight to the square.

 

29.  At 10,15 km we will meet  (wpt 29)     (alt.=  77m)

there is the junction where we will continue right uphill to reach the main square of Kassandrino..

 

30.  At 10.36 km we will meet  (wpt 30)     (alt.=  80m

We arrive at the central square of the village of Kassandrino, were we find a spring of cold water, a café, the church of the Dormition of the Virgin, as well as taverns famous for their spits ..
