Approaching Kassandria by car.

From Thessaloniki:  (50 minutes) 

 While on the road Thessaloniki – Kassandria, exit to Kassandria.

 Track data and analysis.

 

1.      (wpt 1)  (alt.= 43m)

  

The start of the track is at the main town square, one can relax at the town center, by the fountain and chill out under the old plane tree. Kassandria is positioned in the center of the Kassandra peninsula and is the municipality center, while being the largest village of the peninsula. It’s the cultural, commercial and administrative center of the area and local activities include the Folklore Museum of the local Cultural club with their dancing groups, the municipal auditorium, the town band and the most notorious festival is the one of Siviri, taking place every year at the Siviri open theater.

2.      At 20 m at   (wpt 2)  

     (alt.= 42m)

Keep straight uphill at the junction (tarmac). 

 

3.      At 210 m (wpt 3) 

    (alt.= 42m)

Turn slightly to the left on tarmac. 

 

4.      At 450 m at (wpt 4)

      (alt.= 45m)

Turn right on the junction, towards Lekani. 

 

5.       At 550 m at (wpt 5) 

    (alt.= 48m)

Keep straight uphill, tarmac for the next 300m that leaves its place to gravel. 

 

6.     At 940 m at (wpt 6) 

    (alt.= 58m)

Turn left uphill on the gravel road. It is rocky for the next 150m.

 

7.      At 1,60 km at (wpt 7)  

    (alt.= 110m)

Keep straight at the junction, following the main gravel road.

 

8.      At 2,10 km at (wpt 8)  

    (alt.= 144m)

At the junction:

1. To the left leads to the church of Agios Athanasios, and

2. Slightly to the right,

we continue on the main gravel road.

 

9.      At 2,47 km at (wpt 9) (alt. =149m)

  

This is the Lekani area. There is an old fountain and a map from the forest authority with information on your location.

 

10.  At 2,49 km at (wpt 10) (alt. =151m)

  

Viewpoint to Olympus and Nea Potidea and the surrounding area.

There is a junction where: 

 

1. To the left leads to Fourka, and

2. to the right leads to Siviri and the open air theater.

Keep left to Fourka.

 

11.  At 3,90 km at (wpt 11) 

    (alt. = 186m)

Keep straight downhill.

 

12.  At 4,15 km at (wpt 12)  

    (alt. = 174m)

Turn left.

 

13.  At 4,53 km at (wpt 13)  

    (alt. = 180m)

Keep straight downhill.

 

14.  At 4, 93 km at (wpt 14)  

    (alt. = 176m)  

At the junction:

 

1. To the right leads to the chapel of Prophet Ilias, and

2. Straight and downhill, leads to Fourka.

 We continue straight downhill.

 

15.  At 5,22 km at (wpt 15) (alt. =182m)

  

A great viewpoint. To the South it ΄s Skala Fourka, the cape (Glossa) of Possidi, Kalandra. To the West it’s Olympus and to the east, mount Athos. There is a junction where: 

1. To the left leads to Fourka, and

2. to the right leads to Skala Fourkas.

Turn left.

 

16.  At 5,83 km at (wpt 16)  

   (alt. = 136m)

Turn right uphill.

  

17.  At 6,91 km at (wpt 17) 

    (alt. = 48m)

Keep straight.

 

18.  At 6,97 km at (wpt 18) 

    (alt. =  40m)

Turn slightly to the right, towards Fourka.

 

19.  At 7,28 km at (wpt 19)  

    (alt. = 42m)

Turn right to Fourka.

 

20.  At 7,42 km at (wpt 20) 

    (alt. = 34m)

Turn left towards Fourka main square.

  

21. At 7,47 km at (wpt 21)  

    (alt. = 31m)

Turn left towards the square.

 

22.  At 7,62km at (wpt 22) (alt. =94m)  the Fourka main square and its church of the three Hierarches, designed by the local architect Xenophon Peonidis. The village is small and traditional. You can have coffee or lunch and within 4km there is Skala Fourkas: a coastal village with a beach, cafes and restaurants.

The track starts:

1. Walking through the central pedestrian walk with the shops

2. Reaching the traffic lights.

Start by heading to the traffic lights.

 

2.      at 110 m turn left on the junction of the road Kassandria - Siviri (wpt 2)

      (alt. = 32m)

 

3.      At 210m turn right downhill (tarmac) at the junction to Kipsa (Sani), by the Health Center of Kassandria  (wpt 3)

       (alt. = 32m)

 

4.      at 450 m at (wpt 4)

      (alt. = 24m)

Turn right keeping on the main road.

 

5.      at 3,54 km at (wpt 5)       

      (alt. = 124m)

There is a junction:

1. Left to Elani and Siviri

2. Straight to Kipsa and Sani (there is a road sign).

At this point one has reached the chapel of Agios Georgios.

 

 

Turn left to Elani – Siviri, leaving the tarmac for gravel. 

 

6.    at 3,95 km at (wpt 6)  

     (alt. = 121m)

Turn left uphill and stay on the main gravel road.

 

7.       at 4,43 km at (wpt 7)  

     (alt. = 130m)

Viewpoint to Olympus. Keep straight on the main gravel road. You will meet tarmac road after 1,5km.

 

8.      at 6,52 km at (wpt 8) 

    (alt. = 78m )

Continue across the triple junction, straight to Elani. There is a road sign, since it’s the start of the village. 

 

9.      at 7,11 km at (wpt 9) 

    (alt. = 73m)

While in the village of Elani, there is a junction to our left (to Akrotiri). We continue to the left downhill to Siviri.

 Attention! It’s a narrow tarmac road with poor visibility at 2 or 3 points.

 

10.  At 7,18 km at (wpt 10)  

    (alt. = 68m)

Keep slightly to the left on the main tarmac road.

 

11.  At 7,46 km at (wpt 11)  

    (alt. = 64m)

There’s a small junction, keep straight downhill to Siviri.

 

12.  At 8,49 km at (wpt 12)  

   (alt. = 13m)

At the junction:

1. To the left leads to the main road to Siviri (main village entrance) and

2. to the right leads to the seaside of Siviri.

 Turn right.

 

13.  At 8,74 km at (wpt 13)  

    (alt. = 3m)

At the junction, keep straight to the beach.

 

14.  At 8,88 km at (wpt 14) 

    (alt. = 2m)

At the junction keep straight and slightly to the left.

 

15.  At 8,93 km at (wpt 15)

At the junction turn right to the beach.

 

16.  At 9,05 km at (wpt 16) (alt. = 1m) Siviri beach lies to our left.

      

Siviri is a coastal village that has developed in the recent years, there are rooms to let and hotels. It’s famous for its restaurants, the quiet and green nature and the lovely beaches.

Along the coastal road cafes, bars, restaurants, fish taverns and pizzerias can be found, where you can enjoy yourself looking at the sunset. Siviri’s most famous place is its amphitheater, with a lot of happenings, concerts and theatrical shows. It’s well known even beyond Greece as “the Cassandra Festival”.

Turn left and pass in front of the new church of Kassandria.

 

4.      at 380 m at (wpt 4)

There is a crossroad where:

1. to our left there is the main square of Kassandria with the old plane tree, it’s also the finishing point of the central pedestrian walk.

2. we turn right towards the town exit.

 

5.     at 400 m at (wpt 5) 

    (alt = 42m)

Keep straight uphill at the triple junction.

 

6.      at 600m at (wpt 6) 

    (alt = 45m)

Keep slightly to the left, towards the town exit.

 

7.     at 850m at (wpt 7) 

    (alt = 43m)

Keep left uphill.

 

8.      at 1,53km at (wpt 8) 

    (alt = 72m )

There is a sign at the junction:

1. left for Kriopigi, Paleokastro and Kassandrino (tarmac).

2. right to Agia Marina, Fourka (tarmac).

Turn right to Agia Marina, through the woods.

 

9.      at 3,92km at (wpt 9) 

   (alt = 70m)

The church of Agia Marina. On the July 16th, a festival at the square of Fourka takes place, with traditional music and dances, by the local cultural club of Fourka.

 

10.  at 5,10km at (wpt 10) 

   (alt = 48m)

There is a sign at the junction:

1. left for Kassandrino (tarmac)

2. right to Fourka (tarmac).

Turn right to Fourka.

 

11.  at 5,99km at (wpt 11)  (alt = 40m ),

    

The central square of Fourka and the main church of Three Ierarchs, designd by the local architect Xenophon Peonidis.

Keep moving on tarmac, heading to the village exit.

 

12.  at 8,35km at (wpt 12)  

 

    (alt = 11m)

Continue across the junction with the road Kalandra – Kassandria, towards Skala Fourka.

 

13.   at 8,93km at (wpt 13) (alt. = 1m) the main square of Skala Fourka

    

  

 The local beach is of thin pebbles, has a wonderful sunset and the place has numerous fish restaurants, famous for their quality, plenty of accomodation choices and cafes, bars and nightlife.

On the road Thessaloniki – Kassandria we turn to either:

 

 1. Kallithea and then to Pefkohori – Paliouri, or

 

2. Kassandria – Siviri – Agia Paraskevi - Paliouri

track start is at the main square of Paliouri.

The village has small cafes, restaurants, rooms to let and local honey and cheese can be bought from their producers. At a 8km distance to the North, there is the spa and thermal baths facility of Loutra of Aghia Paraskevi, while to the south on the beach, there are hotels and beach bars.

Start by following the paved street. 

 

2.      At 90m  at  (wpt 2) 

    (alt = 131m)

turn right on the paved street. 

 

3.      After 93 m (wpt 3) 

    (alt = 131m)

turn left on tarmac. 

 

4.      At 150 m at (wpt 4)

      (alt = 135m)

turn left on tarmac.

 

5.      At 230 m at (wpt 5) 

     (alt = 132m)

turn right on tarmac.

 

6.      At 290 m at  (wpt 6) 

    (alt = 132m)

turn right downhill (on stone paved street) and keep on the main gravel road. There is a sign to Kryoneri and Avlaki

 

7.      At 2,80 km at  (wpt 7) 

   (alt = 28m)

turn right uphill and stay on the main gravel road.

 

8.      At 3,14 km at  (wpt 8) 

    (alt = 34m)

turn right uphill and keep on the main gravel road. (attention: there are stones for a few meters).

 

9.     At 3,47km at (wpt 9) 

   (alt = 36m)

keep straight downhill on main gravel road.

 

10.  At  3,62 km caution: an ascend with loose rocks for 150m. Keep straight on the gravel road.

 

 

11.  At  4,11km caution: a descend with loose rocks for 130m. Keep straight on the gravel road.

 

 

12.  At  5,06km  at  (wpt 10) 

    (alt = 34m)

turn left downhill.

 

13.  At  5,93 km at  (wpt 11) 

    (alt = 12m)

there is a junction where either: 

1. By turning left you get to the beach, or

2. Continue to the right uphill, without leaving the main gravel road.

 

14.  At 6,98km at (wpt 12) 

    (alt = 85m)

viewpoint, watching at the Geomorphes (Palatakia). Keep straight.

 

15.  At 8,87km at (wpt 13)

    (alt = 98m)

viewpoint over the Aegean Sea and main Greece.

 

16.  At 9,29 km at  (wpt 14) 

    (alt = 100m)  

a triple junction:

1.      To the left you reach Skala, a rocky area which requires caution.

2.      Downhill to the right, the gravel road continues and meets the road after Skala, where they join just before the beach and

3.      Uphill to the right leads to the hilltop.

Follow no2, downhill to the right.

 

17.  At 10,46 km at  (wpt 15) 

   (alt =  44m)

downhill to the left, keep on the main gravel road, you will come across rocks on the way to the beach.

 

18.  At 11,79 km at  (wpt 16) 

    (alt = 10m)

at the junction: 

1. The road from Skala joins from the left and

2. Straight on leads to the beach.

Keep straight to the beach.

 

19.  At 12,30 km at  (wpt 17) 

    (alt = 7m)

turn left downhill at the junction and after 2m turn right, keeping on the main gravel road.

 

20.  At 13,39 km at  (wpt 18) 

    (alt = 34m)

turn right staying on the main gravel road. 

 

21.  At 13,53 km at  (wpt 19) 

    (alt = 44m)

the main junction with the road Agia Paraskevi – Loutra of Agia Paraskevi (tarmac), turn left to Loutra of Agia Paraskevi. Attention! For the next 390m we are moving on the main road and there is no pedestrian walk to either side

 

22.  At 13,92 km at  (wpt 20) 

    (alt = 26m)

turn left uphill at the main junction.

 

23.  At 14,19km at (wpt 21)  (alt =  36m

      

the end of the course. We’ve reached the thermal springs and the municipal baths and spa of Agia Paraskevi, where one can enjoy the indoors and the outdoors swimming pools with the thermal water, which offers treatment to various physical issues. Massage, hamam, Jacuzzi and spa are also available.

The village of Loutra has many rooms to let, hotels, lovely restaurants and bars, for a joyful walk around.
